We require your email and first name to use Maptera, so we can create your account and personalize the experience. If you upload a profile photo or add personal content like notes or pin images, we store that data securely and never sell it.
We use anonymous, privacy-friendly analytics via Openpanel to improve the app. That's it.
We want to make it clear how we use your data — because that's what we want from the tools we use ourselves.
We handle your data carefully, securely, and with respect. By using our services, you accept this privacy policy.
If you create an account, we must store your email and first name. We use email-based passwordless login (6-digit code). We do not store passwords or use your email for marketing.
If you upload a profile photo, we store it to show it on your profile and shared content.
If you save pins or collections, we store them to sync across your devices and make them discoverable. By default, pins are public unless marked private.
If you enable location access, we use your device's location to help you create pins or find nearby places. We never track your location in the background, and we don't store location history.
If you search for places using Google Places, we use a temporary session token to improve results. This token is not tied to your identity and is never stored long-term.
If you upload photos or icons for pins, we store them to display them in the app. These are not shared outside of what you choose to make public.
We use random alphanumeric tokens to keep you logged in and send push notifications. Our server stores basic technical information such as your IP address to protect against abuse.
Maptera uses Openpanel, a privacy-focused analytics platform, to collect anonymous usage statistics — like how often features are used or which screens are visited — to help us improve the app.
We never collect the content of your pins, descriptions, or personal media.
If your analytics become linked to your email (e.g., during support), we still never sell or share your data.
Maptera collects nothing for, or related to, advertising.
There are no ads in the app.
We use the information we collect to operate and improve Maptera, including:
We do not share personal information with outside parties except as required to provide Maptera's functionality.
We may disclose your information if required to by law (e.g. court orders or subpoenas); to defend legal claims; to investigate fraud, abuse, or violations of our policies; or to protect our rights and property.
In the future, if Maptera is part of a merger, acquisition, or sale, user information may be included among the transferred assets.
We implement multiple security measures to keep your information safe. All communication between your device and our servers uses HTTPS.
Data is stored securely in the EU (Frankfurt) with safeguards in place. We may add a read-only replica in the US to improve performance for users there — but never for tracking, profiling, or advertising.

We comply with the California Online Privacy Protection Act.
We will not distribute your personal information to outside parties without your consent.
Maptera has a PEGI 4 rating, meaning it contains no harmful content.
However, we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you're a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.
Your data is stored securely in the European Union (Frankfurt).
By using Maptera and providing your information, you consent to it being processed and securely stored within the EU.
We may maintain a read-only replica in the US solely to improve speed for users in that region.
Your data may be processed or stored outside the country you're located in. We handle all international transfers securely and in accordance with applicable privacy laws.
